LIANA WADHANI

Hi everyone! I’m Liana. I’m a current senior at Columbia College studying economics and minoring in computer science. I have been a part of the CWBS community since my freshman year, starting on the D&I committee as a CM, and now I am the co-chair of Professional Development with Sophie Ahn. My past professional experience lies in working at a startup and in Equity Research. I’d highly recommend startup experience, especially early on, because you get so much hands-on responsibility, which I believe is the best approach to finding what you’re passionate about. This past summer, I was an Equity Research intern at Goldman Sachs in the utilities & independent power producers coverage group. I look forward to working in equity research post-graduation!

Like many underclassmen, when I first arrived at Columbia, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after graduation—I actually aspired to be a professor. By joining CWBS, I was able to meet people with diverse interests and explore different career paths. I found a great support system and made some of my closest friends, who have both helped me grow professionally and personally!

For those of you who are new to the Columbia/Barnard community, I encourage you to approach college with an open mind. Attend events that genuinely interest you, and strike up conversations with the people sitting next to you in class—you never know what you might learn from them. Don’t forget to get out and explore New York City; after all, it’s one of the main reasons you chose Columbia! And most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask questions along the way.
