“This past summer, I had the opportunity to gain exposure to the biotechnology industry at the intersection of science, artificial intelligence, and business. By working on projects with a meaningful impact, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the Business Development team’s crucial role in bridging the gap between scientific advancements and business opportunities.
Although I am just getting into the industry myself, my advice to someone looking to get into biotechnology is to find a firm that works on something you are passionate about. There are so many avenues you can pursue, from different clinical focuses to company sizes. For me, I researched different companies and their pipelines to see if the scope of their work was something I was interested in. Additionally, I found that talking to people at different firms was extremely insightful since they could give me a deeper understanding of the work culture, work-life balance, and collaborative dynamics between different teams. There are so many pathways to choose from, so finding what resonates with you is key!
I enjoyed working in this industry because it is a field that constantly sits on the edge of innovation. With firms putting a focus on new ideas and novel solutions, the industry landscape is always changing, so the work is fast-paced and dynamic. Additionally, I could always see how my contributions were tied to making a tangible positive impact on people’s lives, which was ultimately very rewarding!”
